VIA Rail strives to constantly outdo ourselves as we create a safe and unique travel experience across Canada. Reporting to the Manager, Commodity taxation, the Analyst prepares and files the various declarations and reports in the required delays.
He/she assists the Manager for governmental and externals audits. He/she reviews the documentation to ensure the accuracy of sales tax codification in the various departments of the Corporation.
He/she prepares the journal entries relating to sales taxes. He/she analyses and interprets commodity and motive fuel tax statutes and regulations. He/she also assists the Manager in various tasks and special projects (review contracts, implements procedures, tracking of statistics).
Perform Tax researches. Analyze and interpret commodity and motive fuel tax statutes and regulations. Provides on-going support to corporate users on a variety of taxation issues.
Review tax exemption documentation to verify that all required information is present and ensure that all exemptions are properly documented.
Completion and filing on a timely basis government reporting to the various levels of governments.
Assists the Manager for governmental and externals audits. Follow-up on commodity tax practice after audits.
Review supplier and customer contracts on an on-going basis and make recommendations to ensure Via’s compliance with all federal and provincial tax laws. Recommend tax clauses for VIA’s various agreements.
Assist the Manager with special projects (archives and statistics).
-University degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance) 3 to 5 years of experience in a large corporation in taxation.
-Knowledge of Canadian commodity tax laws and regulation. Knowledge of provincial motive fuel tax laws is and asset.
-Proficient with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint. Experience with Oracle financial system is an asset.
-Positive audit outcome with department of the company.
